Small Talk

Hello dear. How did your day go?

The same old things, I'm sure you know

I washed the kids and combed their hair

Then one went out to play somewhere

And baby cried and moaned a lot

I showed my friend those shoes I got

She couldn't stay for very long

Her washing machine's been going wrong

She left and so I cleaned the floor

And scrubbed the paintwork 'round the door

And groomed the dog and wormed the cat

And swept beneath the front door mat

And just had time to cook a stew

And iron that nice shirt for you

Before I had to stop to feed

The dog, the cat, the kids and weed

The garden. It looks such a sight

And by the way I thought I might

Buy me that lovely, copper pan

I'll save the money if I can

And anyway, I've got your tea

Just sit there and wait for me

I'll bring it in and watch you dine

I don't really fancy mine

What? You don't like it?

Oh, how sad

Well pudding's really not that bad

What's that? A film you want to see?

Well, I'll just turn on the TV

And quietly wash the dirty plates

(It's just the kind of film I hate.)

No, nobody phoned. Nobody called

I haven't seen a soul at all

Except my friend. She couldn't stay

She didn't have the time to day.
